FROM THE DESK OF FR. BONA: Please, welcome Fr. Jack Manning this Sunday who is substituting for me. He is a retired priest of our diocese and for many years taught history at the seminary. Thank you, Fr. Manning, for helping out.
On February 11, we will celebrate the memorial of the Our Lady of Lourdes. That day is also a World Day of Sick. Blessed Pope Pius IX in 1854 proclaimed the dogma of the Immaculate Conception. Four years later, the apparitions of Mary took place in Lourdes, France, from February 11 to July 16, 1858. The Immaculate Virgin appeared to Bernadette Soubirous, a young girl, eighteen times. She used her to draw the attention of the sick to the significance of the Eucharist. The appearance of Mary in Lourdes is a gift from God for the 19th to the 20th century, because the healing power of faith, the one that he showed at Pool of Siloam in Jerusalem (Jn 9), shines once more in our times through the healings at Lourdes.
OUR LADY OF LOURDES PRAYER FOR HEALING: O ever-Immaculate Virgin, Mother of Mercy, health of the sick, refuge of sinners, comforter of the afflicted, you know my wants, my troubles, my sufferings; look with mercy on me.
By appearing in the Grotto of Lourdes, you were pleased to make it a privileged sanctuary, whence you dispense your favors; and already many sufferers have obtained the cure of their infirmities, both spiritual and corporal. I come, therefore, with complete confidence to implore your maternal intercession.
Obtain, O loving Mother, the grant of my requests. (mention your petition) Through gratitude for your favors, I will endeavor to imitate your virtues, that I may one day share your glory, and bless you in eternity. Amen
