FROM THE DESK OF FR. BONA: (1) This is our first weekend together as one parish, albeit with two worship sites. Even though the circumstances that made us come together may not be the happiest, nevertheless I believe that this will make us better equipped to preserve Hungarian Catholicism in Cleveland for a very long time. As I indicated in the previous bulletin, we are beginning to merge the operations, but this process will not be complete for few weeks. For the time being, we are continuing the same Mass schedule. However, with the shrine being later administered by the coming religious order, Masses will be readjusted and the possibility of adding a Mass may open up as well. Please, let me know your thoughts on our future Mass schedule. Also, temporarily, I will be preparing only one bulletin for both the parish church and the shrine. Once the shrine will be administered by the religious order, they will become responsible for the shrine bulletin.
(2) Welcome everyone who is here for our St. Stephen Picnic at St. Emeric church. We especially welcome Mr. Tamás Molnár, the Commercial and Economic Attaché of the Consulate General of Hungary in Chicago who will be our guest speaker at the afternoon celebrations. We hope all of you will enjoy the time spent here with us.
(3) For those of you who were registered parishioners at St. Elizabeth of Hungary parish as of August 13, 2023, we will have a parish appreciation dinner on September 10 at St. Elizabeth. That day, we will have Mass at 11, after which we will gathered downstairs for a meal. More details to come, but I just wanted you to save the date.
STEPHEN OF HUNGARY, PRINCIPAL PATRON OF HUNGARY: On the General Roman Calendar, and thus throughout the world, St. Stephen of Hungary is commemorated on August 16. However, we Hungarians celebrate his feast day on August 20. On this day, we celebrate him as the faithful son of the Church, the head of state and the father of a family. Because he was Christian and Hungarian. His religiosity shines through, and his charity inspires followers. He was strict, but first of all with himself, and then with his people. Thanks to the Christian foundations he laid down, the kingdom of Saint Stephen still stands today. Christian values have preserved our nation through the storms of history, and they are still the guarantee of our future. We ask St. Stephen for his powerful intercession for our Hungarian nation, for all Hungarians around the world, and for ourselves. King Saint Stephen, pray for us!
EUCHARISTIC PROCESSION: Legion of Mary of the Diocese of Cleveland invites you to a traditional Eucharistic Procession on Saturday, September 2, 2023 beginning with Holy Mass at 11am at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist in Cleveland.
