FROM THE DESK OF FR. BONA: (1) Welcome to Fr. Barnabás G. Kiss, OFM, pastor of Holy Cross Hungarian Roman Catholic Church, Detroit, MI, who will be our main celebrant and homilist for our patronal feast day. We are very happy to have him here with us. Warmest welcome also to all of you who are joining us today for our celebration. We appreciate your presence and your support.
(2) On this occasion, I would like to thank all of you (both parishioners and our friends) who have contributed with your gifts, talents and treasures to our parish. Your bigheartedness is appreciated and not taken for granted. May God reward you! I will keep you all in my prayers and will offer a Mass for all our benefactors in the near future. The greatest treasure, however, that a parish can have are faith-filled, holy people. That is the purpose and reason or existence of every parish. As Saint Paul says in his first letter to the Corinthians, at the end faith, hope, and love remain (greatest of these being love that will continue into eternity with us). May Saint Emeric intercede for us to continue to grow in holiness and to become people whose faith is fervent, whose hope is strong and charity is perfect. Saint Emeric, pray for us! God bless you all!
(3) Just a reminder: on November 22, we will honor St. Elizabeth of Hungary with celebrations at the Shrine (details below). Also, on November 22 our 11AM Mass will be transferred to the Shrine of St. Elizabeth.
(4) The music for next Sunday’s Mass is provided by our Youth choir.
MEDITATION: We can already see what God gave us, the Hungarians, after the tragic death of Saint Emeric: the special protection of the Virgin Mary. We are Mary’s realm, even if we often do not feel it. People of our time lack the patience to wait and see what God will give in place of what has been taken away. They imagine how events should unfold and won’t budge an inch from their vision. God, however, is the master of timing; He knows exactly what to give and when. And when it seems He is taking something or someone away, He is sure to give more in return. I believe that Saint Emeric’s tragic death teaches us that, yes, bad things can happen even to religious people. Let’s not ask why God allowed this or that to happen, especially when I am a churchgoer. What do we expect? Perhaps that God will do as we say? Let’s discover, through the events of our lives, what God gives us in place of our losses! (Fr. János Sánta of the Diocese of Vác; Magyar Kurír)
