FROM THE DESK OF FR. BONA: I would like to mention two matters today. Firstly, the month of June is dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. We are all familiar with the pictures or statues of the Sacred Heart. The hands of Jesus (and feet if visible) bear the nail marks – the sign of His great love for us. The love of Christ is further amplified by having His heart displayed on the outside – visible to the whole world. It is usually surmounted by a cross, surrounded by a crown of thorns, and framed by a burst of light. On rare occasions it is also pierced by a sword. Jesus points to His Heart with one hand and at the same time looking at us, engaging us, and asking for a response. Let us be eternally grateful for all that mercy that has flown from the Sacred Heart of Jesus to us and to the whole world, and, as our response, let us live and die with the highest form of love in our owns hearts – agape love – the self-sacrificing love.

Secondly, we have recently finished a major project. As you may be aware, the roof of St. Elizabeth Hall was in a bad shape. We were fixing one leak after another and so it became apparent that we might have to apply a more comprehensive solution. In our research of the history of the building, we found out that the roof might actually be the original one (1914). We are grateful to the Duro-Last roofing company (based in Saginaw, Michigan) that donated and shipped roofing material to us (valued at more than $ 10,000). Also, we are appreciative of the State Secretariat for Hungarian Communities Abroad, who through Bethlen Gábor Foundation, has made available to us a grant in the amount of $ 8,200. The rest of the project (circa $ 27,800) was paid by the parish. I would like to thank also Zoltán Mesztrics whose experience in roofing was invaluable as he helped oversee the project. I am grateful as well to the other members of our parish who helped with the work.

LAST WEEKEND’S COLLECTION ($ 504): THANK YOU FOR YOUR GENEROSITY in supporting the parish. Thank you for sending in your offertory donation through the mail. I know the times may be difficult for many people. If you are able at this time to send in your offertory donations, please do so by mail or use the PayPal option found on the website: https://www.stelizabethcleveland.org/donations/

PLEASE PRAY FOR THE SICK, especially, Jay Kovács, Kathy Szabó, Kamilla Szabó and Anna Melega, Dorothy Fromhercz, Alex Szaday.

PLEASE PRAY FOR THE DECEASED, especially for Steven Domján whose Funeral Mass will be on June 19 at 11AM at St. Emeric church.

ACT OF CONSECRATION OF THE HUMAN RACE TO THE SACRED HEART OF JESUS (BY POPE PIUS XI): Most sweet Jesus, Redeemer of the human race, look down upon us, humbly prostrate before Thine altar. We are Thine and Thine we wish to be; but to be more surely united with Thee, behold each one of us freely consecrates himself today to Thy Most Sacred Heart. Many, indeed, have never known Thee; many, too, despising Thy precepts, have rejected Thee. Have mercy on them all, most merciful Jesus, and draw them to Thy Sacred Heart.

Be Thou King, O Lord, not only of the faithful who have never forsaken Thee, but also of the prodigal children who have abandoned Thee, grant that they may quickly return to their Father’s house, lest they die of wretchedness and hunger. Be Thou King of those who are deceived by erroneous opinions, or whom discord keeps aloof and call them back to the harbor of truth and unity of faith, so that soon there may be but one flock and one shepherd. Be Thou King of all those who even now sit in the shadow of idolatry or Islam, and refuse not Thou to bring them into the light of Thy kingdom. Look, finally, with eyes of pity upon the children of that race, which was for so long a time Thy chosen people; and let Thy Blood, which was once invoked upon them in vengeance, now descend upon them also in a cleansing flood of redemption and eternal life.

Grant, O Lord, to Thy Church, assurance of freedom and immunity from harm; give peace and order to all nations, and make the earth resound from pole to pole with one cry: Praise to the Divine Heart that wrought our salvation: to it be glory and honor forever. Amen
